Saturday, 18th October:  The wind had shifted south overnight and is due to be a breezy F4-5 SSE today, still cloudy with the prospect of rain to come...

Selsey Bill:  A Sooty Shearwater flew east close in at 0843hrs and was subsequently tracked along the coast at least as far as Hove. Otherwise, there were thousands of auks, the vast majority Razorbills, heading east, Gannets were moving too and there was a smattering of viz-mig. Full log below. (SH/PB/JA/RG/BI)

Ferry Pool: There was nothing but a few Black-headed Gulls and Teal on the pool early on but later in the morning five Glossy Ibis dropped (seen earlier at the North Wall and later at Thorney Deeps) and a Peregrine with prey was noted. (BI/MO-W et al)

Itchenor: A Black-throated Diver was in Chichester Harbour, about a mile south of Itchenor this morning. (SM)

Marsh Farm, Sidlesham: There was little on the north side of the farm today bar a few Cattle Egrets and Pied Wagtails but the south side held a large flock of Goldfinches, c.25 Greenfinches, c.30 Meadow Pipits & c.12 Reed Buntings. (BI)

North Wall: Five Glossy Ibis flew across the fields behind the Breech Pool, and a Marsh Harrier was also up over the trees. On the pool there were four Spotted Redshanks, 24 Black-tailed Godwits, a Shelduck, two Shovelers, two Wigeon and 12 Teal, but it was quiet along the bushes with just a few Reed Buntings and Chiffchaffs about. 
Two Rock Pipits were along the wall, and a few Meadow Pipits flew over, while in the Paddock there were two Stonechats, four Pied Wagtails and a Green Woodpecker. (LP)

Later, a Fieldfare and a Mistle Thrush were in the fields (KR), and a Water Rail and a Kestrel were along the wall (AD).

East Side: There were 23 Golden Plovers along the East Side on the rising tide, as well as 32 Grey Plovers, 48 Ringed Plovers, c200 Dunlin, 12 Turnstones and 48 Brent Geese. (LP)

Friday, 17th October:  A chilly start to the day with the wind more biting than of late, still gloomy overhead and remaining dry...

Selsey Bill:  There were again a decent number of auks moving both ways this morning and some better viz-mig, particularly with finch numbers though the star bird was a Mistle Thrush over north. Full log below. (BI/AW)

East Beach to Park Copse:  Two Redpoll went south, 139 Goldfinches went north, a Mistle Thrush flew over north and 69 Siskins went south in a brief look this morning. (MRe)

Church Norton: A quick look around the Severals found c.100 Goldfinches moving north, two Stonechats in the gorse, a Grey Wagtail and a few Linnets & Siskins. (BI)

Ferry Pool: A Glossy Ibis, a Green Sandpiper, a Snipe and the regular Lapwings and wildfowl were on the pool this morning. There were also c.25 Red-legged Partridges in ferry field. (TS/BI/ et al) There was no sign of the Ibis later in the day but the Green Sandpiper and Snipe were still present along with11 Shoveler, 71 Lapwing, 28 Teal, 4 Black-headed Gulls, two Pied Wagtails and a Stonechat, the latter in ferry field. In Ferry Channel there was a another Snipe, 53 Teal, 24 Wigeon, nine Mallard, four Moorhen,a Grey Wagtail, a Little Egret and three Redshank and three Swallows went over the Long Pool. (JC/AB)

Marsh Farm, Sidlesham: A Yellow-legged Gull and a Lesser Black-backed Gull were in the area today but there was only one Cattle Egret seen.

North Wall: There were five Spotted Redshanks on the Breech Pool this morning, along with a Water Rail, 12 Snipe, 38 Black-tailed Godwits, a Shelduck, four Pintail, a Shoveler and 12 Teal, with a Marsh Harrier over the reeds and a few Chiffchaffs and Reed Buntings along the bushes. 
A Rock Pipit was by the sluice, and out in the harbour, around high tide, were 12 Brent Geese, a Greenshank, four Turnstones, and plenty of Lapwings, Redshanks, Grey Plovers, Dunlin, Ringed Plovers, Wigeon, Pintail and Teal, as well as two Gadwall and five Shovelers. 
Two Pied Wagtails were in the paddock, and two Stonechats, a Blackcap, two Jays, a Green Woodpecker and a Great Spotted Woodpecker were in the surrounding trees and bushes. (LP/MJa/SP/GHi) Two Jack Snipe were also seen today. (PCt)

Thursday, 16th October:  Staying dry and overcast in the anticyclonic gloom! Winds still ENE...with a bit of sunshine by afternoon.

Selsey Bill:  A Red-throated Diver went east first thing this morning and there were a number of auks moving through both ways. A Buzzard - not at all common here - soared over the beach and gardens before being driven off N by crows, whilst at least 14 Chiffchaffs were logged. Full log below. (PB/MO-W/OM/LL)

Ferry Pool/Tramway: A Green Sandpiper was here this morning along with 63 Lapwing. Eleven Red-legged Partridges were on ferry field and 12 Swallows flew over. A Water Rail was in Red Barn Ditch. (PB/RP)

Church Norton: There wasn't a lot to see on the falling tide, just 20 Pintails on the water and 20 Siskins in the trees. (PB)

Itchenor: A Nuthatch was in the area this afternoon. (SH)

Shopwhyke: A Black Redstart was present this evening. (SM)

North Wall: Behind the stables this morning there was a Pied Wagtail, a sub-adult Marsh Harrier (3rd or 4th calendar-year bird due to its dull grey wing patches), ten Meadow Pipits and six Chiffchaffs. 
Along the wall there was a Kestrel, a Water Rail, a Cetti's Warbler, another ten Meadow Pipits, a Reed Bunting and at Bremere Rife was a Dunlin and a Kingfisher.
Nearby, at Owl Point, there were two Stonechats whilst the Breech Pool held 26 Black-tailed Godwits and four Spotted Redshanks. (CRJ)
