Ferry Pool: There wasn't much on the pool this morning, with just a Common Sandpiper, two Redshanks, four Avocets, seven Black-tailed Godwits, c30 Lapwings and 11 Teal present. (AH)

Church Norton: There were just a Greenshank, two or three Whimbrels, a dozen Curlews and c70 Redshanks in the harbour this morning, with half a dozen Sandwich Terns c20 Mediterranean Gulls and a Great Crested Grebe offshore, with nothing at all around the hedges. (AH/MO-W)
Around 50 Sand Martins and a dozen Swallows went over early this afternoon, with a Reed Bunting in the Severals and six Sandwich Terns offshore. (SaH)
Greenshank at Church Norton (AH)
North Wall: The Greenshank with the short bill was back in White’s Creek this morning, along with five Little Egrets, 36 Redshank, 12 Lapwing, a Curlew and the family of Mute Swans, and on the Breech Pool, the pair of Canada Geese were on the water, but there was no sign of their gosling.
A pair of Moorhens were by the sluice along with five very young chicks and a dozen Sand Martins and two Swallows flew through, and there was still plenty of activity around Owl Copse, with lots of Little Egrets and a few Cattle Egrets and Grey Herons about, and along the wall there was a good selection of Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers, Whitethroats, Greenfinches and two Chiffchaffs.
At Halsey’s Farm, two juvenile Kestrels were on the fence posts, and out in the harbour by Heron island, 75 Redshank and four Dunlin were along the channel. (LP)
This evening 420 Sand Martins and 30 Swallows went over, along with six Kestrels, whilst two Chiffchaffs and three Reed Warblers were along the wall and two Cattle Egrets were among 20 Little Egrets. (S&SaH)

Medmerry: Easton Lane to the Stilt Pool - The Spoonbill was present again today - it was the same bird present last week, bearing a Dutch ring NB97 (and presumably seen yesterday, standing on the other leg!)
Also about were two Common Sandpipers, a few Lapwings, Swallows and Sand Martins, plus two House Martins, at the Stilt Pool, along with numerous Linnets, Yellowhammers and two Dartford Warblers along the banks. (RBe/DH)
Tuesday, 18th July: The stiff breeze finally abated this morning, with just a moderate north-easterly leaving a warm and pleasant morning after a grey start.........
Selsey Bill: A Common Sandpiper was along the beach, and later a very probable juvenile Yellow-legged Gull was among the gulls on the spit this morning, albeit at some distance, whilst a few Sand Martins and House Martins gathered early on and a Silver Y moth landed on the beach. Ferry Pool: There were two Common Sandpipers, four Avocets, eight Black-tailed Godwits, four Redshanks, c50 Lapwings and nine Teal on the pool this morning. (AH)
Also, the Greenshank was in the channel opposite,and there was a Blackcap and a calling Chiffchaff around the Tramway, whilst a few Marsh Froglets were in the Discovery Area. (SR).

Church Norton: This afternoon there was a very unexpected and unseasonal Great Northern Diver offshore. (NSk)

This evening there were a summer-plumaged Knot and c30 Dunlin in the harbour, along with a Greenshank, three Common Sandpipers, four Whimbrels, a dozen Curlews and c50 Redshanks, plus a Common Tern, with an adult and a juvenile Sandwich Tern sitting on the beach.
There were also c30 Swallows and c20 Sand Martins going over west. (AH)

Medmerry: Easton Lane to the Stilt Pool - A Spoonbill was on the Stilt Pool this morning, along with two Common Sandpipers and a dozen Lapwings, though not too much else of note, though c50 Sand Martins and c20 Swallows were feeding low over the water.
Two Dartford Warblers were singing along the banks, with at least a dozen Whitethroats and Yellowhammers about, along with a couple of Reed Warblers, ten Skylarks and 50+ Linnets, with at least another 50 Sand Martins going over, heading eastwards. (AH/TS)
The Spoonbill was still around this evening, with a Common Sandpiper and a Ringed Plover present, too, though the pair of Egyptian Geese seemed to be down to just three goslings.
Around 250 Sand Martins and 50 swallows were overhead, along with a Buzzard and three Kestrels, whilst a Cattle Egret was on the reserve, but the only different birds along the banks to this morning were three Dartford Warblers, including a juvenile, a Reed Bunting and a Stonechat. (S&SaH)

Monday, 17th July: Another very sunny and breezy morning as the wind remains fresh and from the south-west.....

Ferry Pool: Half a dozen Cattle Egrets were on the pool early, before they joined a further 27 birds from the fields that flew around and drifted off east. There was very little on the pool, otherwise, though, with just two Avocets, four Black-tailed Godwits, c40 Lapwings and a Teal present. (AH/P&LH)

Church Norton: There was very little to report this morning, with a Common Tern, two Sandwich Terns, c30 Black-headed Gulls, four Whimbrel, four Dunlin, two Ringed Plovers and a dozen Curlew about it in the harbour, and nothing in the bushes. (AH)

This evening a Greenshank, half a dozen Whimbrels, c50 Redshanks and four Sandwich Terns, including a juvenile, were out on the mud. (AH)

North Wall: A Common Sandpiper was along White’s Creek along with 40 Redshank, 20 Lapwing, a Whimbrel, two Black-tailed Godwits and four Curlews, and further out on the mud there were two Stock Doves, and two Sandwich Terns were with a group of 16 Mediterranean Gulls.
On the Breech Pool there were seven Black-tailed Godwits, a Grey Heron and a Little Egret were about but there were no small birds seen in the windy conditions although, in the sheltered bushes along the East Side there were lots of butterflies, with Brown Argus, Small Copper, Common Blue and Speckled Wood seen, as well as lots of the commoner species. This evening the male Marsh Harrier - now missing a couple of primaries - and a juvenile were out, with 110 Sand Martins, 20 Swallows and four Swifts also on the wing.
Three Reed Warblers and a Blackcap were along the wall, with 21 Black-tailed Godwits, c20 Little Egrets and a Cattle Egret also seen. (S&SaH)

Selsey: A Jersey Tiger was actually in my house this afternoon, before I safely released it into the garden hedge. (H Knott)

Chichester Marina: At the Marina, a Great Black-backed Gull brought in a mole and landed in the reserve pool, but otherwise nothing of note, other than around 95 Mute Swans gathered near the head of Fishbourne Creek. (RBe)

Chichester Canal and Marina: Amongst the usual mix of birds along the canal this morning were two Blackcaps and three Reed Warblers, all singing. There were two Mute Swan families - one with four cygnets and the other with five, the latter still at the nest, whilst between Donnington and the BIrdham Road there were three Tufted Duck families (two of four young and one of five).
