Sunday, 18th February: After very heavy overnight rain, a dank and drizzly morning, though slowly brightening up in the fresh south-westerly breeze......

Ferry Pool: A single Avocet was on the pool this morning, with, otherwise, just six Gadwall, c40 Teal and c75 Shovelers, with c120 Wigeon on the field. (AH)

Church Norton: There plenty of waders on the mud this morning, including a Bar-tailed Godwit, c80 Knot, c50 Grey Plovers and c500 Dunlin, along with c400 Brent Geese and c40 Teal.
Also, along the sheltered hedges, a big flock of Blue, Great and Long-tailed Tits included at least two Chiffchaffs and four or five Goldcrests. (AH)

North WallTwo Barn Owls were seen this evening - one at Halsey's Farm and one towards Honer Farm, whilst four Marsh Harries, two Buzzards and a Kestrel were also seen, and 17 Grey Herons and 16 Little Egrets were roosting in Owl Copse..
Also, around 50 Golden Plovers were in the harbour, a Water Rail, a Cetti's Warbler and four Stonechats were along the wall, with c400 Black-tailed Godwits, c100 Lapwings, c50 Teal and c300 Wigeon on the waterlogged fields and many hundreds of Brent Geese coming and going. (S&SaH/AH)

Saturday, 17th February: A really murky, overcast morning, lightening slightly after a drizzly and foggy start, with the breeze fairly light and from the south-west......

Ferry Pool: There were just eight Gadwall, c20 Teal and Mallards and c50 shovelers on the pool and c50 Wigeon on the field this morning. (AH)

North Wall: There were plenty of birds about this afternoon, but nothing too unusual, with c200 Golden Plovers, c300 Lapwings, c200 Black-tailed Godwits, c100 Knot, c300 Dunlin and c1500 Brent Geese seen, but just a Cetti's Warbler and a Green Woodpecker were noted along the wall, with a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard and a Kestrel going over. Medmerry: Easton Lane to Marsh Barn - It was fairly quiet this morning, with just a Stonechat, a Goldcrest, 11 Yellowhammers, three Pied Wagtails, two Greenfinches, a Green Woodpecker and a Great Spotted Woodpecker along the banks and a Buzzard over. (S&SaH)

Church Norton: The Whimbrel was in the harbour this morning, along with a Bar-tailed Godwit, c40 Grey Plovers, c200 Dunlin, a few Curlews and Redshank, a couple of Wigeon, c40 Teal Teal and c250 Brent Geese, before the latter flew off west. 
There were also single Common and Mediterranean Gulls in the harbour, and just a single Great Crested Grebe offshore, whilst a sub-adult Marsh Harrier flew across the harbour. (AH/IP/HB et al)

Friday, 16th February: A fairly cool and mostly overcast morning in a moderate westerly breeze.....

Selsey Bill: It was very quiet this morning, with a few Red-throated Divers and Sandwich Terns the only things of note. Full log below. (AH/BI/SR)

Ferry Pool: Thee were just six Gadwall, four Shelducks, 40 Teal, c60 Shovelers and c80 Wigeon about this morning. (AH)

Medmerry: Windmill to the Breach - Two Greenshanks were at the breach this morning, along with lots of Grey Plovers, Dunlin and Turnstones. (BI)

West Itchenor: The Black-throated Diver was present again off the Northshore boat yard this morning.(PH)

Fishbourne Creek: On the low tide this morning, there were three Greenshank upstream of Dell Quay and13 Pintail were off the sewage works. The large flock of the commoner gulls contained seven Mediterranean, three Lesser Black-backed and a single Great Black-backed Gull. (RW)

Church Norton: The five Long-tailed Ducks were offshore again this afternoon (AHu), whilst later the two Eiders, three Red-breasted Mergansers and a Great Crested Grebe were on the sea, with the two female Goldeneyes again in the harbour.
There were, otherwise, just a few Knot and Grey Plovers on the metalwork and a few scattered Teal, until a flock of c750 Brent Geese flew in from the west (AH).
