Monday, 22nd September: A fresh and chill north-easterly was blowing this morning, though mostly sunny and warm out of the wind.....

Ferry Pool: There were just four Black-tailed Godwits and six Teal on the pool this morning, with a Common Sandpiper in the channel opposite. (AH)
Mill Pond Marsh: A Common Sandpiper was on the flooded field, but not much else, whilst a Kingfisher and a Sparrowhawk flew through and a Cetti's Warbler and half a dozen Chiffchaffs were in the hedges. (AH/IP)
North Wall: A Little Stint was showing very well by the rife at Halsey’s Farm, and there was an impressive count of 21 Stonechats along the fences, with plenty of Meadow Pipits and Chiffchaffs also around the fields and bushes.
Three Wheatears were along the wall and a Whinchat, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Whitethroat, six Reed Buntings and nine Goldfinches were along the hedgerows, with a female Marsh Harrier and a Buzzard over.
In White’s Creek two Kingfishers flew out from the sluice, a Greenshank was along the banks with two Curlew Sandpipers, a Common Sandpiper, 30 Dunlin, 30 Lapwings, the usual Redshanks and Black-tailed Godwits also about, whilst a Shoveler was on the water as well as a Tufted Duck, and the regular Pintail, Wigeon, Teal and Mallards. Marsh Farm, Sidlesham: This morning the area held a Spotted Flycatcher, a Whinchat, 12 Chaffinches, four Stonechats, five Blackcaps, two Goldcrests, nine Meadow Pipits, three flocks of Long-tailed Tits, c50 Chiffchaffs, c60 Swallows and House Martins, eight Linnets, 2two Cetti's Warblers, a Great Spotted Woodpecker, two Kestrels, a Buzzard, a Sparrowhawk, 12 Curlews and three Cattle Egrets. (SR)
Church Norton: Two Spoonbills were roosting in the harbour, (well after the nine had passed the Bill, suggesting they were not necessarily the nine seen in the harbour at the weekend), and a Little Stint and at least ten Curlew Sandpipers were on the mud early on, but not later, when it was quiet beyond a hunting Marsh Harrier, with another heading for Greenlease Farm, and a steady stream of Swallows, House Martins and Meadow Pipits, over, going east.
Also, a dozen Stonechats were along the front and two Wheatears were opposite the first Several, but there wasn't much in the hedges, beyond a couple of Goldcrests, a couple of Blackcaps and half a dozen Chiffchaffs. (MRe/AW/IH/AHu/AH/IP/MO-W et al)
