Saturday, 6th July: After more overnight rain, a fairly cool morning of some sun between a lot of fast-moving cloud in a very brisk westerly breeze.......

Selsey Bill: Two fairly distant Black Terns going west were a surprise for the date, and an Arctic Skua was offshore, too, but otherwise it was the usual mix. Full log below. (JA/SH/BI/MRe/IP/AH et al)

Ferry Pool: There were just six Black-tailed Godwits, two Little Ringed Plovers, an Avocet and the Shelduck family on the pool this morning, whilst a Swift, a Swallow, a Stock Dove, a Skylark and four Mediterranean Gulls went over.
Also, the Greenshank with a slightly deformed rear end was back in the channel opposite for at least its fifth year. (AH/PB et al)

Church Norton: There ere c25 Sandwich Tens in the harbour this morning, including at least five juveniles, along with c40 Mediterranean and Black-headed Gulls, whilst waders comprised six Whimbrel, eight Lapwings, c20 Curlews, a dozen Redshanks and similar of Oystercatchers, with c30 Shelducks, including at least a dozen juveniles, were out by the main channel. 
A couple of Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff were heard, with a few young Long-tailed, Blue and Great Tits along the sheltered hedges and a family of Green Woodpeckers were in the churchyard. (AH)

North Wall: A Spotted Redshank, a Common Sandpiper, 22 Redshanks, two Lapwings and two Curlews were along White’s Creek this morning, and a Pied Wagtail was by the sluice, but it was otherwise very quiet in the extremely windy conditions, with just a Greenfinch and two Linnets along the wall and 12 Grey Herons, 36 Little Egrets and 27 Cattle Egrets in and around Owl Copse. Medmerry: Easton Lane to the Stilt Pool - An adult and a young Little Ringed Plovers, five adult and one young Avocets and 15 adult and two young Oystercatchers, plus two Pied Wagtails, were on the Stilt Pool this morning, whilst five Cattle Egrets and an Egyptian Goose were on the reserve.
The banks were fairly quiet in the windy conditions, but still produced a Dartford Warbler, six Whitethroats, two Reed Warblers, a Cetti's Warbler and ten Yellowhammers, whilst 11 Swifts, five Swallows and two House Martins, plus a Kestrel, went over. (S&SaH)





Friday, 5th July: A wet and miserable start to the morning, with heavy rain under leaden skies, though slowly drying up, if not brightening up as the day progressed, with a very strong westerly breeze throughout....

Selsey Bill: It was very slow early on, with a little more later, including a flock of six Shelducks west, but basically it was just the regular species. Full logs below.

Ferry Pool: Three Cattle Egrets were with the cows on the pool this morning, but otherwise there were just seven Black-tailed Godwits, a pair of Teal and the Shelduck family present. (AH)

Church Norton: There were eight Whimbrel in the harbour this morning, along with c25 Curlews, two Dunlin and a dozen Redshanks, whilst a Little Tern and two Common Terns were among c20 Sandwich Terns and c30 Mediterranean and Black-headed Gulls, and a Sparrowhawk shot along the sheltered hedges. Thursday, 4th July: A bright and breezy morning, chilly in the fresh north-westerly, but warm in the sunny spells.....

Selsey Bill: A Little Tern and a couple of Common Terns west were the highlights of a quiet morning in unfavourable conditions. Full log below. (AH/MO-W/LP/P&LH)

Church Norton: There wasn't much to report this morning, with just three Whimbrel, a dozen Curlews and Oystercatchers, two Common Terns and eight Sandwich Terns in the harbour and nothing in the hedges. (AH/LP et al)

This evening there were c40 Sandwich Terns, including several juveniles, a Common Tern and c30 Mediterranean Gulls in the harbour, along with six Whimbrel, a Ringed Plover and c20 Curlews and Redshanks, with a dozen or so House Martins and a couple of swallows feeding over the churchyard. (AH)
